Should I Repair or Replace My Car Windshield?

Regardless of whether you are replacing or repairing a windshield, you will be faced with a variety of safety concerns that are worth considering when contemplating whether to repair or replace your windshield. Many individuals do not know how valuable a correctly installed and fully functional windshield is to the safety of those inside of the vehicle. This is because a variety of issues can arise when problems take place during a repair or replacement that can lead to safety concerns such as a failure in airbag deployment and much more.

What To Consider

The first thing that should be considered when questioning whether to repair or replace a windshield that has been damaged is the size of the crack. Some windshield may not even be considered for a repair due to the large size of the cracks present on them. The dollar bill trick is one that is commonly used to determine whether a windshield can be repaired. If you find that the damage on your automobile’s windshield cannot be covered by a dollar bill most insurance companies will mark you for a total windshield replacement automatically.

Another question to ask yourself is will the crack on the windshield be visible after a repair is completed? Although the answer to this question depends on a variety of aspects such as the experience of the auto glass technician, type of crack, and tools being used, it is important to consider. Depending on the size and position of the crack, it can often disappear from site completely after a proper repair although there are times that a crack remains visible even after a repair.  When this is the case it can become a real danger if the discrepancy is within the line of site of the driver. This is why another important thing to consider when questioning whether to repair or replace a windshield is the position of the crack.

With all the stresses the world throws at us, it’s nice when windshield and auto glass repair are a breeze.

3.) Auto Glass Associations

Another thing to keep an eye out for is whether your auto glass servicer is registered with, or certified by, any auto glass associations. When the company you choose is certified by an auto glass association, you can breathe easy knowing they follow all standard safety procedures while utilizing the best technology to tend to your auto glass.

You might think that all auto glass servicers are relatively similar, but there are certain aspects you really should be on the lookout for. How Long does a Windshield Replacement Take?

Our goal is for every windshield replacement to be fast, convenient, and safe. The actual windshield replacement process takes about one hour from start to finish. This includes removing the damaged glass, cleaning out the area, and putting in the new glass. For every replacement, the technician uses high-quality Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) glass and premium Sika brand urethane adhesive heated up to 180 degrees.

After making the replacement, the driver must wait an additional hour for the Safe Drive Away Time. The Wisconsin Windshield Centers Safe Drive Away Time of about one hour is the lowest in the industry. This is the lowest amount of time we require you to wait so that the adhesive can fully seal.

Between the actual replacement service and the one hour Safe Drive Away Time, a windshield replacement at Wisconsin Windshield Centers take two hours.
